At the June 17, 2026 Council meeting, the Township of the North Shore recognized Heather Pelky as the 2026 Senior of the Year.
Mayor Moor noted that Mrs. Pelky has been involved both politically and as a volunteer with the municipality for decades. Her involvement includes sitting on Council from 1985 to 2010, which included being the Reeve from 2006-2007 and Mayor from 2007-2010. Mrs. Pelky has also been involved with groups from Block Parents, VICARS, Canadian Red Cross, Canadian Cancer Society, North Shore Health Network, Blind River Public Library, Algoma Manor, Huron Lodge to name but a few. Presently she is the Chair of the Cemetery Committee and represents the Township on the Five Fires Police Services Board. Mrs. Pelky is the epitome of a positive, constructive, caring, and proactive resident and is most deserving of the Senior of the Year Award.
